Amplify Student Voice with Flipgrid

Every student has a voice.
Let’s amplify it using Flipgrid!rocket.png

One of my favorite tools I have come across this year is using Flipgrid in the classroom. It has amazed me how popular this has become with my students. Flipgrid allows ALL students to have a voice on their terms and feel comfortable doing so. One of the biggest things I have seen this year was how my quiet students or those students who don't like to raise their hand have thrived being able to express themselves with the use of video. I would have never known the extent of their thinking without the use of flipgrid. Flipgrid gave them a chance to tell their thinking in a way they were comfortable and have FUN doing it.

What else is great about Flipgrid? PARENTS LOVE IT! Want your parents to join in on a book club discussion or discuss about a topic you have in class? Just share the flipgrid link with your parents and now they are apart of the class discussion! Your students need some motivation on a Monday morning in December? Give your parents homework such as, "Name 3 great qualities about your child," and a link to flipgrid topic. Your students come in and start off with a smile on their face seeing a funny video from someone at home. Flipgrid is the ULTIMATE tool to not just give students another way to express themselves but also it allows parents to follow along and be more involved in the classroom.

So what can you do with Flipgrid?
There are many more ideas to share that I can't list them all here!

How Can You Use Flipgrid To Amplify Student Voice?

Engage
Use Flipgrid to engage students at the beginning of a lesson by including a video, image, quote, or another inspirational hook in your topic for students to respond to. Present your lesson with a video introduction and have student's respond.
Explore
Students explore a topic through a collection of resources (articles, videos, infographics, text excerpts, etc.) Students can view each others video's to learn about what others are researching or learning.
Apply and Share:
Create an assignment for students to apply what they learn by using web tools to create, collaborate, and/or connect beyond the classroom.  Then collect student work to provide feedback, and/or include a section for students to share work with an authentic audience. Share with your parents. Invite your parents to the grid and let them participate. Students LOVE IT!
Reflect:
Give students an opportunity to reflect using Flipgrid. Set-up a quick 15 second reflection grid and let your students share with you their thinking or understandings of the mini-lesson taught in class.

How does Flipgrid Work?
  1. The teacher creates a grid
  2. The teacher adds a topic
  3. Students Share their thinking (App Smashing is encouraged when using Flipgrid!)
  4. Students view others video's and respond directly to other students via video.
  5. Need ideas? Check out the Flipgrid Library for 1000's of topic ideas.
Flipgrid has become a favorite tool for my class this year. Want to try the full version of flipgrid? Go to Flipgrids Website and use the Promo Code BRYANHANAN to get a 45 day free trial of Flipgrid.
The main benefit of the PAID version is that it allows you multiple grids and it allows students to respond to one another. The FREE Version does not allow students to respond to one another and you can only create one grid.
