This book features the use of hip-hop, rap and African-American poetry. Included is a passage from Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, hambone rhythm, jazz and blues. Artists range from Langston Hughes to Queen Latifah. Self-esteem, hope, respect for the past and determination for the future is depicted through many of the poems. The accompanying CD allows readers to hear the artists’ performances.
