Teamwork Makes the Virtual Dreamwork

Teamwork Makes the Virtual Dreamwork

This school year is unlike any other. Every teacher is having to do things they never thought about before the pandemic.

This year when Noblesville Schools offered a choice to students to stay online or to attend school in person, our team never dreamed that we would be the teachers for these amazing students.

After realizing that we are now virtual teachers, we started to rally around what we all could contribute to our team. I couldn’t be more proud of these educators. We have had to really think about our values and strengths in working together.

One of the most helpful things we did right away was to create a shared Demo Course in Canvas. We made sure our courses were set up similarly so that there would be a seamless transition when we entered our content for the week. And then, the best part...Import the material straight into our individual courses, tweak it for our individual classes, and DONE!

To also help with our planning before creating material for Canvas, we have a shared virtual planner that each of us input into to help us project our work through our lessons and units. This helps us keep everything from being taught too much in isolation and to see the overall view of what we are requesting from students daily.

This work is hard and at first, we were nervous about dividing up the work by subject. We knew that isn’t always what’s best for kids but we knew that it was what was best for our team. It ended up being one of the best choices we made.
