Keynote in the Classroom

What is Keynote?

Keynote is a presentation software developed by Apple Inc. that is part of the iWork suite of productivity applications. Keynote is a powerful presentation tool that students can use to showcase their learning in a creative and engaging way.

Why Keynote

  • Customized themes and templates: Keynote provides students with a variety of themes and templates that can be customized to fit their needs.
  • Graphic tools: Keynote allows students to add charts, tables, images, and other graphics to their presentations. Students can also create 2D and 3D diagrams and graphs, and add animations and transitions to their slides.
  • Collaboration: Keynote allows students to collaborate on presentations with others, even if they are not in the same location.
  • Multimedia support: Keynote supports a wide range of multimedia formats, including video and audio. This makes it easy for students to embed multimedia elements into their presentations.
  • Presenter tools: Keynote provides students with presenter tools that help them deliver their presentations more effectively. These tools include presenter notes, a virtual laser pointer, and a timer.

Three Ways to Incorporate Keynote into the Classroom.

1. Fluency Portfolio

Students can create a fluency portfolio to showcase their reading. The portfolio can contain audio or video recordings in order for students to do a self-assessment to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to set goals for further language learning.

The below activity was found on the Apple Edu Forum. The Apple Edu Forum is a resource for educators who are looking for new ideas and best practices for using technology in education.

2. Emojify your Mood

In this SEL activity, students can draw an emoji of how they are feeling in the morning. Asking students how they feel in the morning is an important practice that can have a positive impact on their learning and overall well-being.

The below activity was found on Apple Creativity. Apple Creativity for Kids also includes a range of resources for teachers, including lesson plans, activity guides, and ideas for incorporating technology into creative activities.

3. Multiplication Array Cities

Multiplication arrays are a useful tool for learning and memorizing multiplication facts. They provide a visual representation of multiplication, making it easier for visual learners to understand and remember multiplication facts.

In the below activity, students used tables and shapes to create their own multiplication cities.

Overall, Keynote can be a valuable tool for students to demonstrate their learning in a creative and engaging way. By using multimedia elements and interactive features, students can make their learning more memorable and effective.
