Amplifying AI: Kristi S.

Spend time with Kristi Smith, and you will learn that family is everything to her. You will then notice that Kristi brings a familial sense of loyalty and warmth to everything she does. So, it’s no surprise that this post features Kristi and her tight-knit family.

This school year marks Kristi’s fifth in the NHS technology office and her 16th year in Noblesville Schools. Over the years, Kristi has successfully supported hundreds of teachers and students with technology troubles, but tech puzzles still confound her. She has been turning to tools like ChatGPT and Gemini more often for fresh problem-solving approaches. She even had Gemini help her use content to make a fun rap for tech customer service training.

Kristi, who has two entrepreneurial daughters in their twenties, suggested Google Gemini when one of them needed help customizing a basic event management contract. Not only was the result on point, but Gemini also provided detailed explanations of key changes. The same daughter has used AI to polish her resume and LinkedIn profile to build her brand. While her daughter used AI to craft a contract, Kristi and her husband recently used AI to interpret one. After redacting identifiable information, they ran a dense contract through ChatGPT for a digestible summary. Kristi’s other daughter works as a professional photographer and is nervous about AI’s implications on the industry. She’s also cautious about sharing pictures of minors online due to privacy concerns and misuse by scammers online.

Kristi’s Dad is 86 years old and loves to tell stories of his youth. For a Father’s Day gift, Kristi and her brother had him save personal stories on a platform called Storyworth. Families can then download the stories into a keepsake book. Kristi’s brother could download his Storyworth content as a PDF and then upload it to Google’s Notebook LM. Listening to a podcast of her dad’s life was enough to bring tears to her eyes. Her brother, an entrepreneur like her daughters, has been making AI to help people in the manufacturing industry.
“I used to think AI was only in the movies. Now, I think of AI as an enhanced version of Google.”
Kristi is still hesitant but has used AI extensively in the last two months. The more time she spends with AI, the less hesitant she becomes.
