Many of you know Zach Lewis in the Technology Department. You may not know that Zach has a Kindergartener this year at Promise Road Elementary. I recently asked him how these first eLearning Days have gone at home. He answered, "Great!" My response: Really?? Tell me more. I had been bracing myself for a negative response. Zach explained that Karen Feder's lesson plans were engaging and easy to follow.
eLearning Days came up again when I met with First Grade Teacher Brittany Bowers for this blog. It then became apparent that PRE's Kindergarten and First Grade Teams have collaborated well to support their students' families on eLearning Days. Here are three action steps they took that impressed me.
- Made a video with an overview of eLearning Day expectations. The K-1 teachers shared the video at Meet The Teacher events in August. They can reuse the video for new arrivals and keep using it next year!
- Walked through the eLearning Day materials with students the day before the eLearning Day. This way, students aren't looking at a digital tool for the first time on eLearning Day. Students access platforms like Seesaw and MyON as part of eLearning Day plans, but teachers use Canvas to organize everything into one central place. [This 2-minute video shows how to link a Seesaw activity in Canvas.]
- Built a Canvas Module. Canvas Modules establish a logical sequence of learning experiences: where to begin, what to do next, and how to know when finished. Interested in learning more about Modules? Check out our Canvas Trailblazer Challenge for October.
